Dahon Sold 348,000 Bikes in 2007

Dahon announced record sales in 2007, representing a 20 percent increase in unit volumes and a 36 percent increase in revenues year on year.

Sales growth was strong in all global markets and there was also a significant move to higher priced, higher quality offerings, said a statement from Dahon.

Dahon sold 348,000 folding bicycles in 2007 compared with 290,000 in 2006.  The privately held company did not release revenue figures.

The Cannondale ON concept folding bike is a go!

As an update to the posting on this site about the Cannondale ON concept folding bike introduced at Eurobike last year, according to the Cannondale community site, the company has committed to bring the bike to market in the near future.  The ON project had its genesis as a student (Philippe Holthuizen and Rodrigo Clavel) designed bike called the Jackknife in 2006.

Cube's Urban Concept Folding Bike

 

 

Gregor Dauth worked with Cube Bikes of Germany to develop this concept folding bike as part of his thesis at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences.  This cool bike features a carbon fiber frame, disc brakes, and integrated lighting.  The downside of this folder is that you have to remove both wheels to fold the frame then carry them separately.  More info can be found <here>

When you just can't fold enough, reinvent the wheel!

The Crossbreed, a folding bicycle wheel, is still in development. An innovative idea to be sure but it remains to be seen how functional it might be in practice.

Luxury Folder

From the press release: Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH developed the folding high-tech bike in partnership with top German cycle manufacturer ADP Engineering GmbH, a company renowned for its exclusive, handcrafted Rotwild brand of cycles. In collaborating on the new bike the partners’ aim was to build a cycle which would satisfy the every need of discerning Mercedes-Benz customers. <full press release>

The Suitcase Bike

 

Designer Gosha Galitsky created this unique folding bike prototype which should go into production later this year with an expected MSRP of USD $399.00.  At that price, "Q" should have enough money left over to have it outfitted with a rocket launcher.
